New site: hello wordpress!

After 3 years of releasing my first portfolio website, it was time for a redesign. Old site worked perfectly well, except for one tiny detail: when I originally made it, I didn’t think I would need a blog. I still don’t really need it, but I wanted to be able to write a little something here and there.

Why i chose WordPress

Of course, I could have made something of my own and integrated it in my custom CMS, but when it comes to blogging one should really not bother reinventing the wheel, having a mature product such as WordPress around.

Another thing I could have done is to keep my old system for the portfolio display and add WordPress for blog posts. This would mean I would have to make a WordPress theme to match the old site style, end up with 2 different systems on one site while spending not much less time than what would take to port everything to WordPress. So that is what I did – built everything on WordPress platform from scratch.

How it’s made

Basically I made a theme, modified some existing plugins, and internationalized the content. For portfolio display, I use JH Portfolio plugin with some modifications and custom templates. For internationalization – QTranslate.

I am happy with how it all turned out and it’s a joy writing content in the new system.
